Katrijn Van Damme. Staying true to yourself.

Vacuum pendant. PVC, cotton thread.

Katrijn Van Damme

Belgian-Luxembourgish artist and jewellery designer, lives and works in Luxembourg.

I’m specialized in contemporary jewellery made of alternative materials, usually not used for that purpose (gypsum, rubber, thermo-retractable tubes). I try to create objects that trigger certain aesthetic feelings and deceive simultaneously when worn: for example voluminous pieces that are actually very light and moveable. The answer is not found at first sight.

Brooches “Calamus”, 2015, different sizes (approx. 70mm), thermo-retractable tube, wooden beads, zipper, steel

Loves daylight. Gets energy from silence and time.

“Rubbish” brooch (front and back side). Rubber mold, PU, bead.

Currently analyzing the realm of the catalogue in the exhibition field.

“2 wrap” necklace. Silicone, beads, gypsum, cotton thread, 100 x 50 x 300 mm, 2012

Rachel Whiteread, Meret Oppenheim, Alexander Kluge and Mia Maljojoki are on the guest list.
